Much better evening

I had a fruit sorbet and an orange juice that I made tonight. It had a sweet potato, carrots, clementines and gala apples. It was pretty good. It didn't have an overpowering taste like the other juices I've made. They all have been good in different ways. The only one I wasn't crazy about was the Mean Green. I'll try it again though without a whole lemon and see how it is. I did make David's juices for work tomorrow. I made him a mean green and an orange juice. Everything is cleaned up and put away for tomorrow. I did have a small mishap when feeding the clementines in the juicer. I tried to put all four in at the same time and the first one went in but the other 3 didn't and I didn't get the plunger in quick enough and clementine went everywhere. LOL I got it cleaned up pretty quickly though. Thankfully it was the pulp which was pretty dry. I'm proud of myself for not having a bagel sandwich like I really wanted to. I have run out of stuff though so I'll have to make a trip to Sprouts in the morning. I have someone (supposedly) coming by to buy a modem but I can go to Sprouts early (they open at 7am) and be home way before the 10:30am appointment. I'm not expecting this person to show though. I've had other people interested in stuff and they never showed so I'm not getting my hopes up. It's only $10 anyway.

So, it's been a difficult day but I kept to it and now feel like it's been a successful day. Tomorrow is David's first day at work since we started juicing so it will be interesting to see if I juice for myself more than once tomorrow. I'll try to have a salad for lunch too. That's my plan anyway.

I still feel tired and sore. I'm not drinking enough water or juice. I know I need more if I want this to be a healthy way to lose weight. I'm getting more fruits and veggies than I ever did before though but it's still not enough. I have to do more. I don't want to feel this tired and sore forever. I still look forward to taking my medicine at night to dull the pain. That's not a good thing. I'm glad it helps the pain but I'd rather not have the pain to begin with.

David's doctor's appointment went well. He does NOT have Parkinson's or MS. He has essential tremors which just can be from being dehydrated and also comes with getting older. I'm thinking that the tremors I have are from dehydration. We both need to hydrate better. I'm just grateful it's not anything serious. I told the doctor that we're doing more fruits, veggies, nuts and seeds. He recommended the Mediterranean Diet but we're happy doing what we're doing for now. The MD is high on fish and seafood which doesn't work for me any how.

That's about it for tonight. I'm tired and going to bed once the hockey game is over. I want Chicago to win but I don't want to be up late because of overtime (it's 2-1 LA right now). Pray for a Chicago win with no OT. LOL Goodnight.

Difficult day

Today has been the hardest day so far. I think it's because we went out to David's doctor's appointment. Seeing all the food places made me hungry. I don't think I'm eating/drinking enough to keep me from getting hungry. I know part of it is cravings and not hunger but I just want to eat something. I'm thinking of making a ham and cheese on a bagel sandwich. I'll have a juice or sorbet instead. I can't give up just days into this. ~sigh~

Sigh!

I forgot to take a picture of the sorbet again. LOL I made it with a banana, 1/2 cup of cherries and 1/2 cup of pineapple. It didn't want to blend up because of the pineapple so I added a 1/4 cup of water. That did the trick. It was delicious. Now I'm really full though. It's almost 8:30pm so if I do get hungry later I'll just have some nuts and raisins. Hopefully I won't get hungry. My hunger level has been low all day anyway. Sometimes my evening medicine makes me feel hungry, voraciously hungry. That hasn't been happening as much lately though. Changing my diet is helping a lot of things. My allergies are bad again tonight. I'm hoping that this change in diet might help with my allergies too. I'm very tired of watery, itchy eyes. Oh well, it will all change in time. I'm happy that I've lost 8 pounds but I know I have a lot of water weight to lose so I'm not getting too excited. It will be nice when I can see and feel the weight loss. I have a long way to go but at least I'm headed in that direction now. Goodnight.

Drinking a delicious dinner

I made that sunset juice again tonight for dinner. I used a beet, a sweet potato, a carrot, 2 apples and an orange. Wow, it was fantastic!

I don't know why the pictures are distorted but I just wanted to show everyone that I really am drinking these juices.

I weighed myself tonight and I've lost another 3 pounds!! Woohoo!!

What I'm really liking about this plan is that I'm not hungry. I have cravings but I know they have nothing to do with being hungry. It's amazing how many food commercials are on TV! Wow! They even have food in non-food commercials. It's crazy. I'm just glad that I'm not hungry all day long. I couldn't tolerate that very well. I had 2 juices today. I'm slowly working my way up to 4 a day. I'd like to do 5 days of just juice then go back to juice and whole fruits and veggies along with nuts and seeds. I think it's doable. I'm also having the blended fruit (sorbet). That helps with the sweets cravings.

I was tired all day today but I think that's because of the medication I take. My legs were really sore today so I took some pain medicine and that still has me sleepy 3 hours later. One day I won't be in so much pain and I won't have to take so many medications. I'm hoping that soon this drawer will be (nearly) empty.

So on day five of this lifestyle change I'm doing well. Still haven't gotten rid of the bagels and cream cheese. It's like a crutch for me. Just knowing it's there and I could have it if I wanted to makes not having it easier. Oh yeah, this morning when I put gas in the car I had a real hard time because of the convenience store there. I so wanted to go in and buy some junk food. I didn't though and that's a victory. If I can get over being so tired and if I can feel some reduction in pain I'll know this is all going in the right direction. I can't wait to see Dr. Fouss in the fall. I hope I'm doing really well by then and we can talk about me going off some of my meds. I'll probably see Shellie (my PA) sooner though to talk about my test results from the endocrinologist. I'd like to get some lab work in a month to see how I'm doing. Going off the cholesterol med and the GERD med would be nice. I haven't had any stomach problems in the lasts 5 days and no reflux either. That is awesome.

David sees the neurologist tomorrow. I'm hoping that the shaking he has in his left hand is something that eating better can help with. I'm sure he'll order some testing. I'm just praying that it's not anything serious.

Okay, that's it for now. Maybe I'll remember to take a picture of the sorbet tonight. ;)

Delicious orange breakfast juice

This morning we had a simple breakfast juice. It had carrots a green apple and a lemon. It was very tasty. I might just use half a lemon next time and 1 more carrot. I got the fruits and veggies ready and David juiced. We both cleaned up so it didn't take much time at all. I drank about half a cup and David had a full cup. I could have juiced some more and had more but half a cup filled me up. If I get hungry I can have a banana.

I did get up early today. I was at the bank by 8:15am and then went to Safeway. Their prices are definitely higher than Sprouts so I think I'll go to Sprouts to get the majority of my food and to Safeway to get the other stuff (water, toilet paper, etc.). I also put gas in my car. I am really tired today so doing all that wasn't easy but I was able to get it done. At Safeway I bought a bag of Gala apples, green grapes, a watermelon, a container of raisins and frozen fruit (pineapple, cherry, blueberry). Oh and I bought 2 bunches of bananas. We're using the bananas for snacks and sorbets so they are used up fast.

I think I slept better last night. I can't remember if I had to get up to go to the bathroom or not. lol When I got up I didn't feel refreshed but I felt like it was time to get up. I was glad to get up early because the cleaning lady comes at 10:30am and I wanted to have everything done by then. I even took time to change the kitchen around. I put the microwave back where it was because it was taking up too much space on the other counter. David didn't have any problems using the juicer on the higher counter. I like this setup better. It feels comfortable to me. I also took out a bag of trash this morning and put the Breville box in the garage. I want to keep it so if we have any problems with it we'll have the original box to ship it in. We have a 2 year warranty on it so keeping the box is a good idea.

I'm going to try making the Mean Green juice again today but I'll only put in half a lemon this time. I think it will taste better then. I really like the orange juices so far. I'll probably try a purple or red one today too. We'll be juicing during the day and have a nice salad for dinner. This will be our first day of having 2 - 3 juices in one day. I still have to figure out how I'm going to work out juicing for David's meals at work. I'm pretty sure I'll do it the night before and put them in the Nalgene bottles. I'll be juicing up a storm in the evenings. Thankfully it doesn't take long and there will only be one big cleanup. I'll have to rinse the juice jug in between juices but that shouldn't be a problem.  I don't know if I'll include mine in those juicing sessions or do mine fresh every day. I'll have to see how that works out.

I'm pretty stoked though that we are keeping up the changes we've made for a fifth day. That's some kind of record for us. I mean, we did Weight Watchers for months but that was with allowing all kinds of junk food, fast food and processed food. We did lose some weight but I don't think it helped our health much at all. I'm curious to know what my lab results will show in six months time. I did that 24 hour urine test last week but won't get the results until I see the doctor on the 12th. I need to call and see if he still wants me to get a CT scan or if the one in February will do. I really don't want to get another CT scan but will do what needs to be done. I do have a benign growth on my adrenal gland and it has to be watched so if I need another CT scan I'll get it.

I'm hoping that as the day goes by I'll feel better. Tired, sore and bad seasonal allergies today. That's about it for now. I'll post again after the next juicing session.

What a great day!

I think today was a great day. Despite the pain I'm feeling I am in such a good mood. Not eating junk food all day makes a big difference in how I feel. David was hungry tonight so I made him a small salad. I'm not hungry at all so I didn't have anything. Well, I did have 3 baby carrots that I snacked on while making the salad. I still haven't trashed the bagels and cream cheese. I know if I don't I will be eating them. I'm already justifying eating one tomorrow morning. One bagel won't hurt, will it? Sheesh! It's so easy to fall off the wagon. But I won't. I'll trash the bagels and cream cheese in the morning.

It's nice to feel comfortably full. I would eat so much candy and drink so much Cherry Coke that I would make myself sick. And even then I'd still have more candy or chips. My diet was poorer than poor. It feels good to eat fruits, veggies, nuts and seeds. I know we won't eat this way forever so it's easy to do it for now. Eventually we'll add in some animal protein and possibly some processed foods but I'm hoping that it is limited to none. I don't know how long we'll do what we are doing but the longer we can do it the better off we will be. We'll definitely go until June 14th with just fruits, veggies, nuts and seeds along with the fruit/veggie juices. But Gabe's birthday is coming up (the 17th) and Father's Day is the 16th and we already had plans to eat Mexican food that weekend. I still plan on doing it and then getting back to how we're doing things now by the next day. There still will only be plant based foods in the house. I don't plan on shopping to add anything else for a while. I'd like to see if we can get through the summer eating like this. With farmers markets and fruits and veggies being plentiful I want to take advantage of the glut of good foods. I think that as fall and winter arrive I can add in some hot soups and meals. I have so much to learn and discover about eating a plant based diet. I'm looking forward to all the research and experiments that are to come.

I'm hoping to get up early tomorrow and take a shower, go by the credit union to make a deposit and then go to Safeway to comparison shop and to pick up some fruit for eating (vs. juicing). I didn't think to buy more than was needed for the juicing. I think I would like to do 5 days of juice only but I don't know when we would do that. I'd like David to be home for the full five days. Maybe we can do that after we do the lunch at Estela's on the 15th. Though it would be better to do it around a weekend so David would only have to take 3 days off to get 5 days off. I'll have to talk to him about that. ... Just talked to David. He'd rather not take days off for juicing. I guess I understand that. In that case we could do the five days sooner, like the 16th through 20th. Then do juicing and eating again for the rest of the summer. That would give us 3 months of diet change. I'm hoping that I could lose 50 pounds in that time frame. Hopefully more. My goal is to go to my October appointment with Dr. Fouss and have him not recognize me. That would be awesome.

I can actually look into my future and see myself losing 50+ pounds. It seems obtainable. Honestly, being without junk food this long AND eating this healthy for so many days is a major accomplishment. I don't think that we've ever held on for 4 days before when attempting to change the way we eat. We always give in and have junk food, fast food and soda. That's not going to happen this time. I really want to do this. I am inspired by Joe Cross and his movie "Fat Sick and Nearly Dead". I've watched as many videos as I can find about doing a juice Reboot (giving the body time to cleanse itself), I think one of the most important things I did this time was to get rid of all the food that was in the house (all of it non fruit and non vegetable). Starting clean and shopping at the Sprouts Market made all the difference. It's hard knowing that the 7-11 is only 2 minutes away but I honestly haven't thought much about going there. I'm happy with the food I have. Knowing I have a little break coming up at Estela's makes it all so much easier to do.

I'm looking forward to trying some new juices tomorrow. I think tomorrow we will do at least 3 juices and at least one salad. I'm also going to make some cinnamon treats with hemp hearts. Should be interesting. I'll be making them in the blender since I don't have my KitchenAid mixer anymore. I think I will save up and buy one this summer. Oh yeah, and we'll have some sorbet again tomorrow afternoon or evening.

It's fun because I'm thinking of different things I can do with fruits and veggies, nuts and seeds. I've been getting a lot of ideas from the Raw Food Rehab facebook page. That's where I got the sorbet idea. I think tomorrow I will do just bananas. I'll put them in the freezer tonight so they'll be ready for tomorrow afternoon or evening. I like doing this because it keeps me entertained (watching videos) and has me thinking all the time (doing research). It's not like those programs that send you the food. All you have to do is choose something. There's no thought on what to buy, what would work together. I like having to think and plan. That weight loss food is highly processed and really not good for you. It's easy but very expensive and not healthy at all. What we're doing is easy, cost appropriate and VERY healthy. I think we've made the right choice. I can't believe I've used the juicer and blender two days in a row. That's some kind of record for me. LOL

That's about it for tonight. I have to get those bananas in the freezer and then go to bed. I want to get up early enough to get things done before the cleaning lady comes to the house. I'm going to pay her for her usual 3 hours but I'm going to only do a few things (clean the bathrooms, clean the laundry room, vacuum, dust the TV table, clean the microwave and the stove). I'm doing that because David will be home tomorrow and I'd rather have more time with him without the cleaning lady being here.

If you have an hour and 37 minutes watch the video "Fat Sick and Nearly Dead" on youtube or the Breville juicer site. It will make you think and inspire you. Goodnight!

I've lost 5 lbs so far!

I just weighed myself and I've lost 5 lbs so far! That's encouraging.
