I spent the rest of the evening coloring a Mandala and reading up on trails here in the Springs. I'm really excited to see so many trails here in town. I don't know that I'll be able to walk a different trail every day, but at least I've found some variety.
I was hungry tonight and ate a slice of Tillomook cheese. That took care of the craving. I realize that I don't have much here to eat that is healthy. I have:
1 banana
1 apple
8 slices of Tillomook cheese
raw baby carrots
I need to go back over my nutrition stuff that I got from Suzanne Mason. I get overwhelmed when I start thinking of food and my brain shuts down. I think that's why it was so easy to eat junk food and convenience food. So tomorrow I'm going to plan out menus and a shopping list from my nutrition paperwork. Then I'll do the shopping. If I get up early enough I can do it before I go over to Lisa's. If not, I'll do it after that.
I think I'm going to go get my binder and look up the nutrition information.

Food addiction
I found this quote today. I think it's very interesting.
"The physiological and psychological dependency of food can best be broken when the individual recognizes that they are powerless to combat it alone. They must look to God, who alone is able to provide help and healing in this and all areas of human helplessness. “For I am the LORD who heals you" (Exodus 15:26b). God is as much concerned with our physical well being as He is with our spiritual relationship to Him. As an individual seeks Him, he will find health and healing and recovery. “Dear friend, I am praying that all is well with you and that your body is as healthy as I know your soul is” (3 John 2)."
Marianne told me that Dr. Bird describes addiction as:
"A pathological relationship to a mood-altering experience."
That definitely describes my relationship with food. Pathological means excessive or extreme. Food sure does alter my mood. If I'm anxious all I have to do is eat and I feel calm. But it never lasts for long. So then I have to eat again. Finding other ways to alter my mood is important. There are all the DBT skills, the 911 list and other things to do to change the way I feel. Walking is a way to deal with anxiety too. Eating is just punishing myself. That's not what I want to do. I want to be healthy, lose weight and be an active participant in my own life.
Marianne asked if I could have David come to my Thursday session. He said he would be there for the 2nd half of the appointment. I need to get across to him that I am dealing with an addiction and it's difficult for me to not slip when he's asking me to get junk food and drinks. I also want to let him know that I may slip and I need for him to not chastise me in jest or for real. I'd like his support but I would settle for his understanding. I know that at some point I will have junk food. I don't want David making a big deal about it when I do. Saying 'no' to him each time makes me feel guilty. What if he asks and I say 'no' and then I do want something? Will he get mad at me? I can't be worried about that. I just need to do what is right for me.
Tomorrow Lisa and I are going to go over to Palmer Park so she can show me where the trailheads are. That will be fun. I'm looking forward to it.

Walking trails Part 2
I did find some info on walking trails here in the Springs. I need to print out some stuff and then I'll have different places to go for my daily walks. I did find a map of Palmer Park but I forgot to print it out. I'll do that today. And I found a newsletter on walking trails here. It rates the difficulty of the trails which is a good thing for me. I'm going to stick to easy trails for now. There are tons of trails out there, I just have to find them.

Walking trails
I haven't officially had dinner yet. I did eat a few raw baby carrots and a banana. I'll probably have some cereal in a little while. I'm not feeling near as anxious as I have been. I think getting out and exercising is really helping. It's let me use up the pent up energy I have. I'm not sure where I'll walk tomorrow. I don't think I want to just walk to the mailbox though. Maybe I'll look up trails in Colorado Springs online. There's also the open area south of Austin Bluffs (just before the bridge). That might be a neat place. At least it would be new. I don't want to do the same walks day after day. I'll get bored and quit. There's Palmer Park too. Hmm. So many choices.
I'd like something that is relatively flat so I can walk more. If it's hilly I wouldn't be able to do as much walking but I'd still get a good work out. I need to pick out a bunch of places that I can safely walk and vary what I do each day. Think I'll go check online and see what's out there.
