Cardio workout - check!

I went to the Y this morning. I walked on the track for 10 minutes to warm up. It was 6 loops to do 10 minutes. I'm not sure of the distance of the track. It was a clockwise direction today. I've got to make sure that I get in days where the direction is counter clockwise too so my right knee doesn't take all the pressure. It was sore and my back started cramping by the end of the 6th loop. I stopped and sat down for a minute or two and had some water. Then I went downstairs to the gym and talked to Kay for a few minutes. She got my form from Shellie so I was officially on the C2BF program today. She asked how my orientation went with Karen and I told her it was good. I feel comfortable with starting out with the program Karen gave to me. I told her I did the 10 minutes on the track and then I was going to do the recumbent bike for 20 minutes. She said that sounded good.

So, I hopped on the bike and started with 5 minutes below my target heart rate (THR) which for me was about 108 bpm. The first 5 minutes were the toughest because the back of my right knee was really stiff and sore. I just did it slow but get my HR up around 108. Then I did 10 minutes in my THR. Today that kept me about 120-130 bpm. The 10 minutes went by fairly quick but I think I'll be happier when my iPod Shuffle gets here and I have something to listen to while doing exercise. It should be here by Wednesday. My knee remained sore during the whole 10 minutes so I didn't push it to do 20 today. After the 10 I did another 5 at about 108 bpm to cool down. I did about 5-8 minutes of stretching when I got off the bike. My knee felt better after the stretching. I need to get a good stretching routine figured out. Today I just kind of winged it. I can tell that stretching will be important and will take away some of the soreness. I did take 2 ibuprofen before working out too. So I'm sure that helped with the inflammation also. After stretching I entered my info on my sheet in the drawer. I did 1.67 miles on the bile. Not too bad for my first adventure.

On the way home I could tell that I was hungry. I had a bowl of cereal earlier this morning but that wasn't enough after working out. When I got home I made a plate of red grapes, cheese and wheat thins (1/2 slice of cheese and 8 wheat thins). It was scrumptious and satisfied my hunger. Now I won't have a hard time waiting for lunch to roll around. It was a filling, satisfying, healthy snack.

I'm going to be sure to stretch my leg throughout the day today. It's really stiff behind my right knee. It's not sore or achy, just stiff. I thought my feet would hurt too but they don't. I'm sure I'll feel what I did today tomorrow but I think it will be a good kind of sore not an over doing kind of sore.

I'm going to the 9am WW meeting tomorrow. I'm really looking forward to it and the new topic for the week. This past week's topic on setting up your environment for success has been helpful. Because of it I did a kitchen inventory and kept some things off the grocery list that I don't need to have in the house (like Haagen Dazs and mini chocolates). I know what I have and that helped me to make my grocery list and plan out meals. I'm looking forward to good meals again this week. I do have to pick up just a few things at the grocery store but I'll do that later, probably when David gets home from work. Bayou did fine in her kennel by the way. She's on the couch sleeping.

It's a beautiful day here in Colorado Springs, partly cloudy, but the temperature is nice. I have the front door open to let the cool air in. It was a nice day to go to the Y. I have to remember that on days that the weather is bad and I am not up to driving that I can wait and see if the weather and roads get nice as the day goes along in order to get to the Y. That's not an issue this week but in Colorado in October you just never know. Flexibility, physically and mentally will be key to this program working for me.
