I went over to the YMCA and decided to join while I was there. It will cost $43/month but they have a walking track, pool (large and warm small), hot tub, classes and lots of other things all for the one cost. I'll have to look over the class and pool schedule to see what things I've liked to do. There are specific classes for people who have arthritis or are older so I'll start there. They were very friendly at the Y and extremely customer service oriented. There were tons of people coming and going. Since it was after school there were lots of kids and there were swim classes so it took a while to sign up but nothing bad. I had to get my picture taken for my Y card and it came out okay. I wasn't expecting that so I hadn't showered before I went over. My bad but it worked out okay. I got a tour of the building and everything looks like it will be easy enough to find. It's not a huge place so I shouldn't spend too much time getting lost. LOL The biggest thing will be getting the schedule set and working it out with Bayou's daycare schedule. That shouldn't be too difficult though since I can drop her off and pick her up when it's convenient for me. I may ask David to pick her up on Wednesdays since that's my busiest day. I'll have to see how that goes.
Dinner tonight was unbelievable. We had steak cooked on the grill, sauteed (in very little butter) zucchini and summer squash and a small baked potato. All the food I've eaten today and I still have 8 points left. I'm thinking I might have an ice cream (I'll have to go to the store and get some). I was going to get some Haagen Dazs but maybe I'll get Skinny Cow. I don't know. I'll have to look at the points values for them. I know the Skinny Cow's are lower but I have my jimmies so maybe there's so other vanilla that's lower. I'll have to use my calculator and check it out.
Another thing with the Y is that they have a 12 weeks to fitness program where they counsel you every 4 weeks and help you reach your goals. I think I will sign up for that as soon as I can. I met a couple of people there (workers) and they all were nice. I felt really comfortable there. Unlike how I felt at the gyms I went to. Curves called and I'll call them back and let them know I'm trying the Y right now. I'll give myself a month. If I'm not using the Y then I'll cancel and try something else. The Y isn't too far from home either. It about 8 miles and takes about 15 minutes or so to get there. I think that the times I'll hopefully be going the traffic won't be too bad. I'm really looking forward to doing this.
I just talked to Shellie (my Physician's Assistant) and my results came back from my 02 test. My oxygen levels went way down and I'll probably get a new machine with new settings to I won't feel like I'm suffocating at night when I use my CPAP. That will help me to feel better and more rested too. Everything is coming together so I can improve my health, lose weight and feel better. I told Shellie that I've already lost about 10 pounds and that I joined the Y. She seemed excited for me. She's always been supportive and encouraging.
Okay, so I'm going to go look over the pool and class schedules and see what I can work out. I'll post more later about what I decide to start out with.
